Rev. James R. Flint, Jr.
Meet the Candidate
A Servant Leader. A Proven Pastor. A Vision for the Future.
For more than three decades, Rev. James R. Flint, Jr. has dedicated his life to faithfully serving God, strengthening churches, developing leaders, and advancing the Kingdom of Christ. His ministry has been marked by a commitment to biblical preaching, servant leadership, and building meaningful relationships that unite people around a common purpose.
Following the leading of the Holy Spirit, Rev. Flint accepted God’s call to the ministry in November 1994 and preached his first sermon on February 5, 1995, at Union Evangelistic Baptist Church in Chicago Heights, Illinois, under the leadership of his father, Rev. Dr. James R. Flint, Sr. That calling has grown into a lifetime of faithful ministry, leadership, and service.
Believing that effective leadership requires continual growth, Rev. Flint pursued theological education, graduating from Arkansas Baptist College before completing advanced graduate studies at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary. His commitment to learning has equipped him to faithfully serve both the church and the broader Baptist community.
He is also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, where he embraces the organization’s enduring commitment toward manly deeds, scholarship, and love for all mankind.
Proven Leadership
Throughout his ministry, Rev. Flint has served in a variety of leadership roles, consistently demonstrating a heart for collaboration, excellence, and Kingdom advancement.
Before becoming a senior pastor, he faithfully served as Assistant Pastor of his home church, Union Evangelistic Baptist Church. In September 2008, he answered God’s call to become Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Chicago, where he has continued to lead with vision, compassion, and unwavering biblical conviction.
His leadership has extended throughout the Baptist family, including service as:
- Midwest Regional Vice President of the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. Congress of Christian Education
- First Vice President, Baptist General State Convention of Illinois
- Former Third Vice President, Baptist General State Convention of Illinois
- Former President, Greater New Era Baptist District Congress of Christian Education
- Former First Vice President, Greater New Era Baptist District Congress of Christian Education
These experiences have provided him with a broad understanding of both the opportunities and challenges facing churches and conventions today.
A Ministry Beyond the Pulpit
Rev. Flint has been privileged to preach and teach throughout the United States and internationally, encouraging congregations and equipping leaders across diverse ministry settings. Whether speaking to a local church or a national gathering, his passion remains the same—to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clarity, conviction, and compassion.
His personal philosophy continues to guide every area of ministry:
“Faithfulness honors God, and God honors faithfulness.”
A Heart for the Future
Rev. Flint believes the strongest future is built upon strong relationships, intentional leadership, and a shared commitment to advancing God’s work together. His vision is one of strengthening churches, empowering pastors and leaders, embracing innovation, and fostering greater unity across the Convention.
As he travels throughout Illinois listening, learning, and sharing his vision, his desire is simple: to lead with humility, serve with integrity, and move our Convention forward together.
